DeduCtion iN EArly Idealism

Deduction is one of the most important themes in Classical German Philosophy. it is the methodological procedure which exercised a defining influence on the development, grounding and justification of the theories of c. wolff, i. kant and up to the systems of j.g. fichte, f.w.f. schelling and g.w.f. hegel.
The objective of this project is to examine deductive procedures in early idealism in the period from 1789 to 1795, namely in Karl Leonhard Reinhold, Salomon Maimon, and Johann Gottlieb Fichte.
In more detail, (a) the concept of deduction is discussed; (b) the deductive procedures are reconstructed; and (c) a critical discussion of deductions is conducted. The envisaged aim of the project is the completion of a monograph carrying the working-title “Deduction in Early German Idealism. Systematic Studies of the Concept of Deduction and of Deductive Procedures in K.L. Reinhold, S. Maimon and J.G. Fichte”.
The project is funded by the “FWF Der Wissenschaftsfonds” within the framework of the Lise-Meitner Program and is carried out at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Vienna. The mentor of the project at the University of Vienna is Univ.-Prof. Dr.in Violetta Waibel
